It's empty!

They open the door in a panic and the cell does indeed appear empty. Until they look up.

INT. CELL - DAY

The Guards enter cautiously, eyes trained upward.

A middle-aged INMATE hangs lifelessly from a pipe, strangled by his own linens. His eyes and tongue bulge absurdly, A FOLDED SHEET OF PAPER clenched in one fist.

..........GUARD #1
.....(clicking his tongue)

Only a selfish son-of-a-whore like Sam Talbott would hang himself on the day of his own execution.

ANGLE ON the foot of the bed, side against the wall. A metal leg in one of the corners is missing, but the discrepancy goes unnoticed by the passing Guards.

Guard #1 approaches the sink, spotting a set of dentures soaking in a glass of water.

Guard #2's focus is on the note. Curiosity is killing him. He reaches up and, after a tug or two, pulls the note away. He opens it and reads:

..........GUARD #2

"Escape is mine."

The Guards look at each other, shrug then-

-this all happens very quickly-

-A METAL PIPE slides out of the Inmate's sleeve into the hand that once held the note.

Guard #2 looks up at the Inmate, finding once dead eyes gazing down at him with a cold emptiness. The Guard meets this lunatic gaze with a confused squint as the inmate suddenly brings the pipe up and-

-PLUNK! hits Guard #2 in the eye. Guard #2 falls to his knees, eye hanging out of its blood gushing socket as-

-the inmate whips his metal baton at Guard #1 hitting him square in the forehead, sending him backward onto the bed, which tips over because of the missing leg and Guard #1 is momentarily trapped behind it-

-while the pipe rolls across the floor back towards-

-the Inmate, who undoes the knot around the pipe and comes down. He lifts his shirt, pulls the sheet that had been hanging from around his chest revealing a mere hunk of unattached linen was tied around his neck. He then-

-scoops up the obedient PIPE.

Guard #1 rises in pain from behind the overturned bed and the Inmate quickly walks up, snatching his rifle and turning it on him.

Keeping the rifle on the Guard, the Inmate reaches over to the sink, grabs his dentures and shakes the excess water off. He puts them in his mouth.

..........INMATE

Sing "Oklahoma."

This is not what Guard #1 was expecting. He stares back at the Inmate dumbly and CLEARS his throat.

.....(singing)

Oooooh-oh-klaho-

In the middle of the second "O", the Inmate shoves the hollow pipe down the Guard's throat with such fury, blood shoots out the other end. The Guard sinks to the floor, blood dribbling from the pipe onto his uniform.
